Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani

They are probably the most visited weekend getaways from Pune. Mahabaleshwar is just 20 kms away from the city, there are very easy to reach via road. You can hire a cab or ride two wheelers down the scenic road.
Panchgani is just 19 kms from Mahabaleshwar. 2-3 days in the cool weather is enough to soothe you down.
The places of interest are Mapro Garden, Arthur’s Seat, Lingmala Falls, Elephants Head Point, Sydney Point and Devil’s Kitchen. Pratapgarh, Babington Point are some of the historic points in Mahabaleshwar.
If hills are not your thing, here’s something for beach lovers.
Yes, Alibaug is famous for its beaches. Just 140 kms from Pune, it is the perfect getaway if you’re seeking some solitude from the busy life. The most famous beaches here are Alibaug Beach and Kashid Beach. Vasoli Beach and Nagaon Beach are pretty good too.
Alibaug can be a bit hot so I’d recommended visiting it during rainy season or winters. You can also spend time at the beautiful Khanderi and Underi Islands.
And if history interests you, check out the majestic Alibaug Fort, Kolaba Fort and Kurlai Fort.
Matheran is another beautiful hill station just 120 kms away from Pune.
Fun fact: It is also the smallest hill station in India.
The roads leading to Matheran are extremely beautiful and a treat to your eyes. The place is also famous for the Parsi styled bungalows and the old British architecture.
The best time to visit Matheran is during the rainy season when the hills are lush green. The major points of interests are Porcupine Point and Panorama Point. Also, do board the toy train which goes from Neral all the way to Matheran.
Diveagar is a small village in Maharashtra famous for its simplicity, scant crowd, and beaches. If you are seeking some solitude, this place has be on the top your list.
Just 40 kms away from Pune, it is perfect for a bike ride. Renting a small cottage or guest house are the best options to stay. While, Harihareshwar Beach and Kondivili Beach are the most visited places here. Kal Bhairav Temple and Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary will complete your visit. Bankot Fort is another point of interest.
There is no dearth of options for beach lovers as long as they are in Pune. After Goa, Daman is hands down my personal favourite beach near Pune. The city is beautiful and so are its resorts. Just 302 kms away from Pune, Jampore Beach is its most attractive beach.
Other points of interests are Nani Daman, Mirasol Lake Gardena and Water Park. And the historic points of interests include Panikota Fort, ST. Jerome’s Fort and Dominican Monastery.
