The number of success stories of women is surging and we haven't felt prouder. A classic example of longevity and women empowerment is M. Pappammal, who runs three enterprises in her indiscreet village Thekkampatti.
On a mundane monday or any other day of the week, you will find Pappammal cultivating her field, running a provision store and managing an eatery. It might seem like an ordinary story but what makes her stand out is her age. After the early demise of her parents, Pappammal along with her two sisters was brought up by her paternal grandmother in the same village. Soon after losing her grandmother, Pappammal inherited the provision store in Thekkampatti. Later, she also started an eatery. She bought nearly 10 acres of land in the village from the earnings she generated from these businesses. As she had no issues, she brought up the children of her sisters.
Ms. Pappammal had also been socially and politically active in the early part of her life. She was elected as a councillor of the Thekkampatti Panchayat in the year 1959. She was also a special invitee at the debates organised by the Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU). An ardent fan of DMK President M. Karunanidhi, she was a member of the party too.
This hardworker discloses her secret of longevity and persistance saying hard work, being straight forward and staying clear of mental worries have been the key for her. She is a true example of how people rise above their circumstances by working hard and not giving up.
