According to National crime records bureau, with 3,644 rape cases, Rajasthan ranks 3rd in the number of rape cases. The data also puts Jaipur among the leading cities with a maximum number of registered rape cases. This alarming figure also indicates towards the increase in eve-teasing. As stated by Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Agarwal, ‘The decision to start all women police squad was taken in February this year. The member cops were selected through screening and were trained in the respective field.”
This initiative by Jaipur Police is to help girls and women who are troubled by men outside schools, colleges, and other public places. Not to be compared with Anti-Romeo squad, the idea is to stop eve-teasing and make the city safe for women. Also, to send the right message to society that women are independent and are strong enough to protect themselves.
From 7.00 A.M. to 10.00 P.M. these women cops can be spotted patrolling outside public places such as malls, parks, schools, and colleges. This is an important move in reducing crime against women. And also to ensure that crime doesn’t go unreported.
Undoubtedly, Jaipur Police has taken many initiatives for the safety of women. Earlier to empower women ‘Operation Garima‘ was Launched. It helps women register complaints of sexual harassment and gender-based exploitation.
